The benefice - a short history
There are two parish churches, both Grade I listed buildings.
They are the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude, East Dean and the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Friston.
In 1688 the Parish of East Dean and the separate Parish of Friston formed the United Benefice of East Dean and Friston with one vicar.
It was not until 1975 that the two parishes were totally united to form the Parish of East Dean with Friston.
In 1977 this parish was united with that of St. Andrew, Jevington to form a united benefice.
Details of the services at the individual churches are on a seperate page of this site.
Some information about the village’s parish churches is given on separate pages of this web site and on Jevington church web site.
