East Dean and Friston

Have your say on your

local Whole Estate Plan

LUC (Land Use Consultants - https://landuse.co.uk) has been appointed to assess the process and development of Whole Estate Plans (WEPs) for the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA).

For further information about WEPs, please visit:

https://www.southdowns.gov.uk/planning-policy/whole-estate-plans/

To understand the impact that the Eastbourne Downland Estate plan has had on the people who live and work on (or near) the Estate, we are inviting you to take part in a short online survey. This will take no more than 5 - 10 minutes of your time.

The survey will run for 6 weeks from Monday 8th February - Sunday 21st March

The communities local to the Eastbourne Downland Estate are likely to have been consulted during the production of the plans and we would like to understand if and how you were included in the consultation, and how effective you felt this process was.

Your feedback on your experience will help us to assess the impact and challenges of the current process, and will inform any recommendations for future changes in approach.

We look forward to hearing your feedback.

To complete the survey, please visit the below website which will be live from

Monday 8th February - Sunday 21st March.

Residents’ Association

Latest Letter to Residents

Dear Resident,

Residents’ Association Membership: a message from your Chair

If you are an existing resident, thank you for supporting the Residents’ Association (RA). Your membership is now due for renewal.

If you are not yet a member, we hope you will consider joining. The RA exists for the benefit of all who live in the area. The RA works closely with local organisations, particularly the Parish Council, to serve the interests of local people and maintain and preserve the village

amenities and character.

Below is a reminder of some of the things we do:

A voice for Residents: The RA speaks for the village on matters of importance, where common problems are identified. The RA is in regular contact with our MP and has raised issues such as traffic problems and the loss of our village Post Office.

Welfare of Residents: The RA takes an active role in furthering the welfare of residents. We fund and distribute Welcome Packs to all new residents informing them about our village and its clubs and facilities. We include leaflets about “Being a Good Neighbour” and a “Code of Good Practice for Building Works”. These guidelines can also be found on our website.

Information: RA members are kept in touch via regular emails, covering local matters and alerts about such issues as criminal activity in the area.

Support: The RA funds and manages the road gritting scheme on the Downlands Estate and Crowlink and organises “Team Grit”, a group of volunteers who will lay grit provided by the RA when our roads become icy due to inclement weather. If at such time transport is required to travel out of the village, such as to a hospital appointment, the RA has a list of 4 x 4 drivers who can help provide transport. We also hold a list of volunteers willing to help with village events. We organise the annual Village Fete, via the Fete sub committee. We offer support, including financial where possible, to local clubs and organisations.

Environment: We maintain and enhance estate entrances. Some years ago the RA raised funds to purchase the Greensward, a registered Village Green on Deneside, which we now maintain. The RA periodically organises volunteers for various village tasks, such as spreading bark on the footpaths. We have recently supported the Parish Council in the provision of planters by the village shops
