The Village Hall

Jazz Band BBQ

The annual Jazz Band BBQ event held recently in aid of the Village Hall Trust was again another outstanding success. The venue was at Greenacre, Windmill Lane, the home of Jeni and Roy Webb (see picture).

As we have come to expect, their lawns were prepared to an immaculate standard complimented by a dazzling array of colours from the profusion of flowers and plants that seem to grow in abundance in their well manicured flower beds - without a weed to be seen! With the far reaching views across the fields to the sea, this thus presented a superb setting for the arrival of 127 guests to enjoy the afternoon’s BBQ and the hot Dixieland jazz from the Fabulous Jazz Caverners.

The team of fundraising workers served food and drink of the highest of standards with meat cooked over the hot BBQ coals located in Hell’s Kitchen. With the added bonus of sunshine (although we should come to expect this on a summer’s day) the whole afternoon was one to remember, and the compliments from guests as they left were gratefully appreciated by those who had worked so hard over the previous days setting the scene, not least Jeni & Roy Webb.

With the most valued sponsorship of Jim Fell (Building Maintenance Services) and Chris Walbrin (Family Butcher) and with the generosity of all those attending, a sum in excess of £1,400 was raised that will be used to offset the major maintenance costs of the Village Hall, which thus maintains the affordable rates charged to village organisations for their use of the Hall.

Therefore, a big thank you to all those who attended, to our sponsors, to the band, to all the fundraising helpers and not least to Jeni & Roy for making the annual Jazz Band BBQ an event that has become a most enjoyable and highly rated village function that is now a permanent fixture in all our social calendars.
