East Dean and Friston

East Dean and Friston Cricket Club

Welcome to East Dean and Friston Cricket Club’s 2021 cricket season. We are a friendly club situated in the South Downs, located on the outskirts of Eastbourne near Birling Gap.

As the Cricket Club prepares for its first games of 2021, I'd like to share what progress we have made as a Club over the last year vs our five priorities as well as invite neighbours in the village to join as members and / or sponsors:

Cricket – build vibrant and diverse teams

    •    All 3 teams are looking forward to 2021 and have managed to maintain their spirits through the pandemic

    •    A key challenge will be building a sustainable 2nd XI squad during 2021

    •    A team has been entered into the Sussex Slam 20/20 tournament

    •    A full fixtures list exists starting with the first game vs Alfriston on Sunday 11th April

Youth Cricket – offer All Stars and Dynamos to 5-8 and 8-11 year olds

    •    Thanks to a team of 8 volunteers from within the Club and village, we have 43 children signed up vs our 48 capacity and we have not yet advertised beyond the Club and Village.

    •    Sessions will take place at the Ground from 11am each Sunday from 23rd May to 11th July

    •    A marketing and awareness campaign targeting called #HelpTheTigerRoar has been planned

Good Governance – build an enjoyable, efficient, safe, stable club

    •    The committee has been re-structured to enable the club to be managed day-to-day by the players

    •    We have launched a new online membership system which we hope we help us grow membership during 2021

    •    A ‘Return to Cricket” grant has been secured from the ECB

    •    Health & Safety ‘covid secure’ risks assessments have been taking place to ensure safety of all participants

Facilities - raise funds to ensure the club can operate and deliver a first class facility

    •    The new wicket is beginning to take shape thanks to volunteers mowing and rolling the square using our new roller

    •    We have built a new secure roller storage shed adjacent to the pavilion

    •    An official opening of the wicket event is planned for early May

Community – be at the heart of our community

    •    We are planning a community fun day on 1st August and all villagers are invited

    •    We will be running mid week nets on the ground during the summer

We would like to thank Bob Townsend of Emslie & Tarrant for being our 2019-2021 season shirt sponsor. If there are any other business owners in the Village who would like to sponsor the Club in exchange for a bespoke promotional plan, please contact eastdeanandfristoncc@outlook.com

Lastly, the Club welcomes both playing and non playing membership applications from all sections of the community and you can apply via our new simple online form here https://club.spond.com/landing/signup/edfcc

Thank you to everyone in our village for your fabulous and ongoing support – please come down to the wicket on match days and join us for a cup of tea (when we are allowed to serve it, hopefully later in the summer)

We are very happy to inform you that All Stars cricket will be returning to East Dean and Friston cricket club this summer following the formation of an organising committee consisting of 8 volunteers including parents, club members, retired coaches and teachers living in the village.

Following the cancellation of the programmes last year, the club would like to offer the parents/carers of the class of 2019 the opportunity to sign their children up for the 2021 course!

The programme will be structured in the same way as 2019 – an hour session each Sunday for eight weeks, starting at 11:00am with plenty of tea and cake on offer for spectators! The first session will be on 23rd May and the last on 11th July. All sessions will be held at the East Dean and Friston Cricket club.

We are aware that some of the children who attended the All Stars sessions in 2019 may now be too old to participate in this years programme (for children aged 5 to 8) – so club has also committed to running Dynamos sessions for children aged 8 to 11!

*If your child is 8 years old and has played cricket (or is a keen sportsperson) before we suggest signing them up for the Dynamos course*

The £40 fee covers all the sessions as well as a personalised kit bundle that will be sent straight to your door.
