East Dean and Friston

East Dean and Friston Cricket Club

Welcome to East Dean and Friston Cricket Club’s 2022 cricket season. We aim to be the most welcoming village cricket club in East Sussex and we’re situated in the South Downs, located on the outskirts of Eastbourne near Birling Gap.

Our plans for the coming 2022 season are

  *   We will continue to field two competitive mens league teams on Saturdays

  *   Our Sunday mixed ‘village cricket’ team will provide opportunities for all members to enjoy a relaxed and friendly game of cricket against selected local village opponents, mostly ones with nice pubs – join our Facebook group<https://www.facebook.com/groups/EastDeanCC>  for regular updates

  *   Our new Under 13’s boys and girls teams will recruit new members, then train and have their first games under the leadership of Caylan Parfitt and his team of 3 paid coaches - thanks to a generous grant from Wealden DC – find out more here

  *   Our ECB All Stars and Dynamos programmes will again offer more than fifty-five 5-11 year olds the chance to learn about and (hopefully!) enjoy cricket in supervised Sunday morning sessions  - all places are now booked up

  *   Our new and very smart wicket covers

<https://twitter.com/EastDeanTigers/status/1511457842766700556?s=20&t=7oIqeJgoP90jg0_fkM61DA>  will minimise ‘rain stops play’ announcements thanks to the support of a grant from Sussex Community Foundation

This means almost 140 members plus parents and guardians can be found at the ground either on weekday evenings at nets (from May) and most Saturdays and Sundays. Everyone is welcome to come along to nets, you don’t need to be a member – watch for details on our Facebook group.

All of this activity requires volunteer support and funding so in addition to membership subs, match fees and various grant funding, the committee have a sponsorship budget. New for 2022, it’s now possible to sponsor individual players for £50 and we invite all local business owners and individuals who live in East Dean or Friston to consider sponsoring the Club.

This year we are introducing a new sponsorship management system

All Stars and Dynamos

are back for

children aged

5 - 11

As the Cricket Club prepares for its first games of 2022, I'd like to share what progress we have made as a Club over the last year vs our five priorities as well as invite neighbours in the village to join as members and / or sponsors:

Cricket – build vibrant and diverse teams

      •      All 3 teams are looking forward to 2022 and have managed to maintain their spirits through the pandemic

      •      A key challenge will be building a sustainable 2nd XI squad during 2021

      •      A team has been entered into the Sussex Slam 20/20 tournament

      •      A full fixtures list exists starting with the first game vs Alfriston on Sunday 11th April

Youth Cricket – offer All Stars and Dynamos to 5-8 and 8-11 year olds

      •      Thanks to a team of 8 volunteers from within the Club and village, we have 43 children signed up vs our 48 capacity and we have not yet advertised beyond the Club and Village.

      •      Sessions will take place at the Ground from 11am each Sunday from 23rd May to 11th July

      •      A marketing and awareness campaign targeting called #HelpTheTigerRoar has been planned

Good Governance – build an enjoyable, efficient, safe, stable club

      •      The committee has been re-structured to enable the club to be managed day-to-day by the players

      •      We have launched a new online membership system which we hope we help

We are very happy to announce that All Stars and Dynamos cricket is returning to East Dean and Friston Cricket Club this summer under the leadership of Caylan and Aaron and 8 trained and qualified volunteers including parents, club members, retired coaches and teachers living in the village.

The programme will be structured with an hour long session each Sunday for eight weeks, starting at 11:00am with plenty of tea and cake on offer for spectators! The first session will be on 15th May and all sessions will be held at the East Dean and Friston Cricket club.

Any of the children who attended the Dynamos sessions in 2021 may now be too old to participate in this years programme so we have set up new Under 13s teams for both boys and girls in 2022 - you can read more about it here -
