East Dean and Friston

Candidate address for the Parish Council By-election - 2nd December

MICHAEL BUSTARD

I wanted to introduce myself as a candidate for  the forthcoming election for Parish Councillors at East Dean and Friston.

After 31 years living in Maynards Green in East Sussex, I sold my small farm and moved to Friston over 4 years ago.

I am a widower with two grown up daughters who both went to school in Eastbourne. I have three grandchildren.

Prior to becoming semi-retired, I worked internationally in leadership development as well as holding a number of other part time appointments.

Until 5 years ago ,I was Vice Chairman of the Sussex Eastern Bench and sat as a magistrate in the Criminal and Family Courts principally in Eastbourne and Hastings.

I am a Trustee of two charities , and a member of the East Sussex School Appeal panel.

Two terms  as a Parish Council Chairman for about 10 years in total  have given me a great insight into how Parish Councils can serve the community and enhance the environment. Amongst our successes as a Parish Council were road safety improvements and initiatives to improve village life and harmony.

I believe the area served by our parish council is incredible. If elected, I would do my upmost to work with my parish council colleagues to help maintain and enhance our environment as a unique part of The South Downs National Park.

I would count myself very privileged to play an active part in  a  local community again.
